Sea
Kayaking Destinations
Welcome to Altue Sea Kayaking and to the
magical mosaic that makes up Chile's northern Patagonia landscape, a land of fjords and wild mountains
that plunge to the sea, of picturesque islands and mysterious byways.
Programs from 2 to 9
days in protected waters, where no previous experience with sea kayaks is needed and supported
by a 50 foot mothership.
Our trips originate
in our Sea Kayaking Center in
the cultural heart of Chiloe Island, located halfway between Chile's Lake
District and the inside passage of northern Patagonia.
You can also combine any of our sea kayaking programs with other highlights in southern
Chile.
Our combined American and Chilean staff, assures the best sea kayaking and an unmatched level
of service in a truly Chilean Style. (top)

The Andean
fjords of Pumalin Park (top)
Where
the snow capped mountains plunge to the sea.
Come
join us for an unforgettable adventure in the magnificent fjords of Comau, Quintupeu and Cahuelmó,
on the eastern side of the Gulf of Ancud, where wild mountains
cliffs soar out of the dark waters to touch the sky.
See stupendous glacial valleys, primeval temperate rain forests, and numerous
kinds of marine wildlife, including dolphins, sea lions, penguins and other sea birds.
Smack your
lips over fresh salmon steaks, or steamed shellfish gathered from the cliffs at low tide, all
prepared by our cook in the miniature galley of our picturesque support vessel.
Watch the sunset
on the peaks as you relax in hot pools.
Spread your sleeping bag under the diamond stars of the Southern
Cross.
Words alone simply cannot express the unique beauty and variety of this majestic land. |
Chiloe
archipelago (top)
Where
the magic of traditional culture lives on.
Get immersed in the fascinating, cultural
experience of Chiloe Island as we glide silently through the mysterious byways of this archipelago.
Spain once maintained it's last stronghold of colonial power in South America in Chiloe.
Today, there are
still vestiges of the original Araucanian way of life, which combine harmoniously with the influences
of the German immigrants of the late 1800s, and of modern-day Chile.
Our kayaks emulate the
spirit of the fragile "dalcas", which natives used for traveling in this region many centuries ago.
On one
picturesque island we visit, you'll see an old moss covered wooden church gracing the shoreline, as
well as palafitos (stilt houses).
Taste guindao and rompón, savor a rich curanto and other traditional
cuisine that will delight your palate.
Wander through the local market of Castro, where you'll see artisans
at work on handicrafts that you can buy for surprisingly low prices.

Our
Sea Kayaking Center (top)
Dalcahue
- Chiloe Island
In
the cultural heart of Chiloe, our center faithfully represents the architecture of this island (with wooden
shingles) and is built on stilts over the ocean.
It includes a comfortable
living space for lodging and meals on the second floor, and a convenient
place to store our kayaks and equipment on the first floor.
This space opens to a series of decks on different levels, providing a setting for instruction to
our guests.
We also have an area specially designed for barbecues and traditional curantos as well as a wood-fired
hot-tub to relax in with your friends, after an invigorating day of paddling.
All our sea kayak programs
end at our center, a perfect place for connections to other adventures in southern Chile.
| Really great
programs for everyone! |
